Dinner at La Sal

Last night, we had dinner with Dad, Tio Mario and Uri at La Sal. La Sal was voted one of the best new restaurants in Santiago and it totally deserves that vote.

We ordered a couple of tapas which were simple but unbelievably good. The first was asparagus and shrimp on buttered bread, the other was a battered fish with a fresh salsa. Dad and I agreed our next family gathering will be a tapas party where everyone can share their favorite pupu.

For the main course, we decided to eat family style because the portions were so big. We ordered a seafood risotto, spaghetti with 3-meat sauce and Congrio (which we know in Hawaii as 'Chilean Sea Bass' but no one in Chile know what that is) encrusted in sea-salt. At the table, the waiter breaks open the salt crust to expose the fish inside. I'm not even going to tell you how good that dinner was because you'll just wish you were so there! Near the entry, there was also a leg of cured pork where fresh pancetta is sliced - pretty cool.

We were successful in grabbing the bill away from Dad and you know I have to tell you how much the entire dinner was. For all that incredible food, 2 rounds of drinks, a bottle of wine and a trip to the dessert buffet, before the tip, the total was about 76,000 pesos (which is about $95 US)!
