Since Rod is still a Chilean citizen who could only find his original passport issued in 1986, he had to get an emergency authorization to enter the country before we left Hawaii. While here, we needed to renew the passport which we were told takes about 5 days to receive. On Monday, we went to the office that issues the passports but were 15 minutes late (The office closes at 2pm! How's that for government work?) So yesterday, we went back again to make sure we had plenty of time to get the passport. The process was so simple, it only took a few minutes because the Chilean system is to issue you an identification number that stays with you forever so when the worker looked up Rod's record, all of his information was there.
We pay for the new passport and a new Chilean ID card and the lady tells us the passport should be ready by February 18th. This is a problem because we leave on the night of the 11th. The lady didn't even flinch, she said it would probably be ready before then but if we don't get it by Monday, to come back again. So, I'll either come home with my alien husband or sola (alone). Will keep y'all updated on the status of the pasaporte - stay tuned!

One thing Sheri forgot to mention was that when we got there we pulled a number (E76) but they were calling numbers in D60 something. This meant that there were over 100 people in front of us. People assured us that the line went fast but we weren't looking forward to the wait. We were in luck though. One of the guards happen to be near my Dad and my Uncle and gave them a number like D65 so our 1 hour plus wait turned into about 15 minutes.
